Knead, smell, learn, and taste together: At the TechBrunch with artist Sophie Wohlgemuth, everything revolves around sourdough as a living practice and everyday ritual.

Sourdough is a ritual. It’s alive, always changing, and it needs your attention. You feed it, check in on it, take care of it, almost like a very quiet pet or a Tamagotchi. It takes time, the right conditions, and some consistency to really come into its own, kind of like us.

As part of the public program for the exhibition New Rituals, we explore sourdough as a practice shaped by care, experience, and shared knowledge. Together with artist Sophie Wohlgemuth, you’ll stir, knead, watch, and taste. Along the way, sourdough opens up conversations about care, community, and the small, everyday ways we live together.

This workshop brings together artistic input and hands-on making, inviting you to experience sourdough not just as something to eat, but as something you do, a living, social practice. You’ll also get some sourdough to take home, so you can keep it going and make it your own.

Sophie Wohlgemuth is an artist, educator, and publisher. Her work explores embodiment, care, agency, community, and collective knowledge, shaped by feminist perspectives on social processes. Since 2023, she has been developing the performance series Caring Is Scary, where she works with everyday practices like baking bread, cleaning, building, and learning, and gives them a new twist.
