In the year 2026, the future, imagined in science fiction, is already here. Still, we find ourselves stuck with stories shaped by the dreams of 20th century American male authors.

Sci-Fi Tales & Tea creates a space to talk about science fiction that takes a different route. Each month, we will meet to read a short story by FINTA authors and immerse ourselves in the practice of slow and mindful sharing of tea. We will unpack the politics, aesthetics, and vision of the different kinds of science fiction, and discuss what kind of stories we want to read, write and live. This book-and-tea club format continues the series of «Tales Transcended» community, that unites people offline in Basel, and online internationally.

The book club takes place in English and is facilitated by Lerie Pemanagpo.

Pemanagpo (they/she), b. 1990, is a transdisciplinary artist, performer and director, currently living between Zürich, Basel and Barcelona. Pemanagpo holds a Masters degree in philosophy, trained in physical theatre and Jungian analysis, and currently completes a Master of Science in Digital Arts and Creative Technologies. Permanagpo is a lover of science fiction and futurism, and an active AI researcher and beta-tester, implementing AI into their artistic practice since 2020.

Summarising their multidisciplinary background in art, theatre, Jungian psychology, spiritual practice and writing, Pemanagpo calls themself “a professional fairy-taler_ess”, as the cornerstone of their work is to explore the collective myths and intimate, sensual dimensions in the realms of technology and science.
