Getting there
The museum is located 100 metres from the tram stop Freilager, Münchenstein. There is no street to cross. The access is via Freilager-Platz. Pick-up service from the tram stop available on request at office[at]hek.ch, +41 (0)61 331 58 40. HEK has disabled parking spaces directly in front of the museum (see below for details).
Access to Disabled Parking Spaces:
Access by car for people with disabilities: After entering the
Dreispitz via gate 13, choose the access road directly to the left via
Florenz-Strasse in the direction of the high-rise building of the
Hochschule HGK FHNW. To have the bollard lowered, please press the bell
of the Hochschule HGK FHNW. You will be connected to reception. If the
reception is not manned, dial the service number 0041 / 61 335 40 46.
Drive across the Freilager-Platz. There is an accessible parking spot
left of the museum staircase.
Arrival at the Museum
The entire museum is accessible without thresholds.
The museum can be entered via a staircase (8 steps) or a ramp to the left of the entrance. Entry to the foyer is through two hinged glass doors. On the left is an unattended cloakroom with lockers and straight on the left hand side is the museum ticket office. Further straight ahead a double door without threshold leads into the exhibition area. Access to the museum café is to the right of the entrance.
Admission
People on disability insurance are admitted at a reduced rate. Those accompanying visitors with visual, mobility or hearing impairments are admitted free of charge. Guide dogs are permitted.
Exhibition area
The exhibition area consists of one large room and several smaller rooms, all located on the ground floor. The lighting in the exhibition rooms depends on the current exhibitions and is generally rather weak due to video projections on show. The foyer is brightly lit.
There is no audio induction loop installed in the exhibition space. Printed exhibition texts are available at the ticket office. Where possible, video works have text transcriptions or subtitles (DE or EN).
Basement with toilets and function room
The basement is accessible by stairs or public elevator. The concrete staircase to the basement comprises 23 steps, 3 intermediate landings and has a handrail on one side. The elevator door is 90 cm wide; inside its floor surface is 120 by 150 cm.
The museum has a gender-neutral public wheelchair toilet. The toilet ist accessible with a eurokey. A eurokey is also available at the museum ticket office. The door opens inwards, a door closer is available. Its floor surface is 250 by 220 cm; there is an L-handle on the wall and a folding handle on the free side. An alarm button is not installed, the washbasin is accessible from underneath.
