Opening Regionale 26. Frequency: Dark and Stormy

The Regionale 26 at HEK is dedicated to the current weather situation and takes a close look at what’s brewing. Threatening weather moods such as storm, rain, dark clouds, lightning, and thunder form the atmospheric framework of the exhibition. The works on display generate frequencies within this mood range – on the one hand audible as sound, vibrations, and noise – on the other hand perceptible in a figurative sense as moods, resonances, and commentaries on the political and social state of the world. Particularly deep frequencies below 20Hz, which are no longer audible but can be physically felt, play a special role. These infrasound frequencies can be relaxing, but also evoke anxiety and unease, and are often described as “ghostly.” Visitors encounter works that intertwine weather and vibration, making frequencies tangible both acoustically and metaphorically.
