MAKER SPACE - MESH FESTIVAL
As part of this year’s Mesh Festival, we are offering a range of workshops and guided tours in and around the HEK:
You can pop into the Makerspace at any time without booking and take part in our varied range of workshops. Design a glowing LED friendship bracelet with us, create 3D creatures and explore them in augmented reality, or get involved in Stefan Degen’s participatory textile project, The Strings We Attach. Even if you just need a quick breather from all the festival’s excitement, you’ll be in good hands at the Makers-Space’s tea station and sci-fi reading corner.

Recommended for ages 7 and over; younger siblings are welcome.
Adults accompany the children and are welcome to get creative themselves.
The Strings We Attach
Together with Stefan Degen, we’re creating a participatory textile piece that will grow over the course of the festival. You can try out simple crochet techniques, help others with their attempts, and have your contributions incorporated into a shared structure.
LED friendship bracelets
At the DIY station, you’ll learn the basics of simple circuits. Using LEDs, batteries, cables and small components, you’ll create glowing objects. The focus isn’t on technical perfection, but on experimenting, learning and having fun together.
3D Creatures in AR
You can design your own 3D creatures, speculative objects or digital forms and then place them in the space using augmented reality, thereby adding a digital dimension to the Makerspace for the duration of the festival. Collages made from recycled and scrap materials, structures in the space or elements from the other stations serve as a starting point.
Tea Station
At the Tea Station, you can discover various herbs, flowers and teas, create your own blends and try them out. The station provides a relaxed space for taking a break, chatting and experimenting together.
Sci-Fi Reading Corner
Short sci-fi texts, zines, books and question cards invite you to immerse yourself in speculative futures.

With artist and curator Juliette Bibasse, and museum director and curator Sabine Himmelsbach.

Architecture Walk
The Architecture Walk offers insights into the transformation of the Dreispitz and Freilager sites. Starting with the history of the location, the tour focuses on architecture, new uses and urban development.

Greening the Campus
Stefanie Rohrer and Hans Vollmer present the Greening the Campus project. We’ll look at what’s growing on the Freilager site, why certain plants were chosen, and how green spaces can become infrastructures of care in everyday urban life.
