MAKERS ROOM - MESH FESTIVAL
As part of this year’s Mesh Festival, we are offering a range of workshops and guided tours in and around the HEK:

Makers Room (Drop-in / Drop-out Workshops):
You can pop into the Makers Room at any time without booking and take part in our varied range of workshops.
Workshop Stations

The Strings We Attach
Together with Stefan Degen, we’re creating a participatory textile piece that will grow over the course of the festival. You can try out simple crochet techniques, help others with their attempts, and have your contributions incorporated into a shared structure.
LED friendship bracelets
At the DIY station, you’ll learn the basics of simple circuits. Using LEDs, batteries, cables and small components, you’ll create glowing objects. The focus isn’t on technical perfection, but on experimenting, learning and having fun together.
3D Creatures in AR
You can design your own 3D creatures, speculative objects or digital forms and then place them in the space using augmented reality, thereby adding a digital dimension to the Makerspace for the duration of the festival. Collages made from recycled and scrap materials, structures in the space or elements from the other stations serve as a starting point.
Tea Station
At the Tea Station, you can discover various herbs, flowers and teas, create your own blends and try them out. The station provides a relaxed space for taking a break, chatting and experimenting together.
Sci-Fi Reading Corner
Short sci-fi texts, zines, books and question cards invite you to immerse yourself in speculative futures.

Repair Café 🛠️
📍Where: Workshop-Room HEK, Opening Hours: So., 12:00–17:00
The Repair Café Binningen is taking concrete action to reduce resource waste and the growing mountains of rubbish. Bring along your broken items or clothes and repair them on site.

Get an overview of the festival’s program and structure and gain personal insights into the curatorial decisions behind it from the curators themselves. No registration required.

Studio Lemercier exhibition tour - Fr., 16:00–17:00 & Sa., 15:00–16:00

Architecture Walk - Sa., 17.10.2026, 13:00–14:30
The Architecture Walk offers insights into the transformation of the Dreispitz and Freilager sites. Starting with the history of the location, the tour focuses on architecture, new uses and urban development.

Greening the Campus - Fr., 16.10.2026, 13:00–14:00
Stefanie Rohrer and Hans Vollmer present the Greening the Campus project. We’ll look at what’s growing on the Freilager site, why certain plants were chosen, and how green spaces can become infrastructures of care in everyday urban life.
