ARTour City Guided Tour
Jumping sheep and singing jellyfish - discover interactive works of art in the city of Basel with augmented reality.
On this 75-minute tour, you will discover digital works of art scattered around the city. Using augmented reality (AR) technology, the digital works become visible and audible in the real world. From Münsterplatz through Basel's old town all the way to the Totentanz, oversized, floating mushrooms, colorful, glowing jellyfish that react to your singing, and shapes that snake through the sky animate the city. You will get to know the works of contemporary media artists and learn more about the background of their practice. You can even download your own 3D "giveaway" artwork or take a selfie amidst the humming and floating virtual shapes.
During the tour, you'll use your own smartphone and the ARTour app, which you can download via the link below before the tour. The app is free and available for iOS and Android in the store. Once the app is open, it also runs without internet.
The starting point is at the main entrance to the cathedral at Münsterplatz in Basel. If you have difficulties downloading the app, the facilitator can help you 15 minutes before the start of the tour at 10.45am.
The ARTour was developed as an art initiative by Roche in collaboration with HEK (House of Electronic Arts) in Basel and Basel Tourism to mark their 125th anniversary. The artworks were created by national and international artists, especially for the ARTour and illuminate the theme of life from different perspectives.
The tour is suitable for children aged 6 and over and can also be booked by private groups.
Registration is via Basel Tourismus using the ticket link.
